E.M., South Yarmouth Dear E.M.: According to the Dennis-Harwich Lions Club website, https://www.eclubhouse.org/sites/dennis_harwich, they collect used eyewear and hearing aids, which are sent worldwide. Requests and donations can be made to the Dennis/Harwich Lions Club, P.O. Box 41, Dennis Port. You can also contact Lion Rick White at rwdhlmamc2020@comcast.net. The Dennis-Harwich Lions Club has eyeglass and hearing aid donation boxes throughout the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, and Chatham. They note that due to the virus, some of the following locations may not be opened for business yet. (The post offices should be open.) Several stores accepting donations of men's clothing Dear Write to Know: I was wondering if anyone knows of a consignment store and/or a thrift store that are open that takes men's clothing? The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, 133 Queen Anne Road, Harwich, takes donations of men's clothing. You can reach them at 508-432-6519. Drop off for clothing is at their thrift shop, The Second Glance Thrift Shop, 265 Main St., West Harwich. Donations are accepted Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. The St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop in Cotuit on Route 28 has two rooms of men's clothing on the second floor of their shop. You can call the thrift shop at 508-420-0949. They are taking donations on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday before noon. You would do well to call them first since they sometimes have a sign stating they are not taking donations that day. Also, the Falmouth Service Center accepts donations of clothes and small household items at their thrift shop, Hand in Hand, located at 141 Sandwich Road, East Falmouth. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays and donations are accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To reach them, call 508-548-2794. Lack of banks in Buzzards Bay leaves reader perplexed Dear Write to Know: Hi. I have a question for you. Buzzards Bay does not have a physical bank in its downtown area. The closest branch of a bank is in Wareham near Home Depot. Why doesn't Buzzards Bay have a hometown bank? Just curious. 508-362-5139. Thank you. J.W., West Barnstable Dear J.W.: We researched banks in Buzzards Bay and found that there are several bank ATMs there, but few if any banks. The ATMs include Bank of America, Santander, and Cardtronics. There is a Citizens Bank in the Super Stop & Shop in East Wareham, as well as Rockland Trust in Pocasset and Eastern Bank in East Wareham. We drove through downtown Buzzards Bay and didn't see any banks. Buzzards Bay is part of the town of Bourne and a popular site for fishing, boating, and canal walking. It is also home to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. We spoke to someone in the selectmen's office at Bourne Town Hall and she didn't know why banks have pulled out of Buzzards Bay but thought perhaps it was due to lack of foot traffic.
